ExxoMobil and vital voices launch business women's network at world economic forum

Exxon Mobil Corporation and Vital Voices Global Partnership  joined on June 10 with local businesswomen’s organizations throughout Africa to announce the launch of the Africa Businesswomen’s Network (ABWN) at the World Economic Forum on Africa.

The ABWN aims to build and support a network of businesswomen’s organizations in Africa to expand the number of women succeeding as entrepreneurs and leaders in the corporate world; to raise the profile and credibility of women in business; to foster global networking opportunities among businesswomen; and to advocate for policies that expand economic opportunity for women. Network Hubs are now underway in Sub-Saharan African countries including Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda. Read more

Nigeria: SME development - SMEDAN in successful partnership with Niger Fortune Etu

Since 2004, SMEDAN (Small Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria) has been making desperate and concerted efforts to establish partnerships with state governments in the development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria. After much work in this area, the Agency and the state governments, under the administration of President Umar Musa Yar'adua, have agreed to jointly establish Business Development and Support Centres (BDSCs) as well as Business Information Centres (BICs) where SMEDAN can run entrepreneurship training and provide counseling, advisory and information services.

GAWE hosts global women's fair

Ghana will host the 4th Global Women Entrepreneurs Trade and Investment Forum scheduled for July 23 to August 2, 2009 which will bring together African women entrepreneurs and women in business across the continent.

The theme for the fair is, "Women entrepreneurs' promoting intra-African and inter continental trade: Tool for attaining the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)".

The Global fair and investment forum was institutionalised in 1996 to create a platform for women entrepreneurs to discuss economic issues of vital importance and to mobilise women entrepreneurs to promote networking and consensus. Read more
